The eleven project sites are in eastern Lower Saxony, between Lake Steinhude in the West (North West of the City of Hanover), the City of Salzgitter in the South and the border with
other federal states (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt) in the East.
Most of the areas consist of the natural floodplains of the rivers Elbe, Aller, Leine, Oker, Ilmenau and Schunter or larger lowland areas.
Seven of the eleven sites are part of the Natura 2000 network. The other sites are of special importance for the tree frog and function as corridors between the Natura 2000
sites.
